Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify decision-making styles, critical thinking disposition, and self-leadership according to Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality type in nursing students.
Methods: The sample consisted of 200 nursing students. Data were analyzed descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe, and Pearson correlation analysis.
Results: According to the MBTI preference index, Rational decision-making style was significantly higher in thinking (T), the intuitive style was higher in extroversion (E) and intuition (N), and critical thinking disposition and self-leadership were higher in intuition (N) and thinking (T). There were significant differences in decision-making styles, critical thinking disposition, and self-leadership by MBTI functions. The dependent decision-making style was higher in SF type and NF type, the critical thinking disposition was higher in SF type, and NT type and self-leadership were higher in NF type and NT type. Decision-making styles, critical thinking disposition, and self-leadership in nursing students had a significant correlation with each other.
Conclusion: In this study, there was a statistically significant correlation between MBTI personality type in nursing students and their decision-making styles, critical thinking disposition, and self-leadership. Therefore, when planning a nursing education program, it seems necessary to adjust the program regarding the students¡¯ MBTI personality type.
